Travelling the World with Idyll Wine Co’s International Sales Manager James McDonnell.

We share Idyll Wine Co’s award-winning wines all over the globe, selling in over 40 different countries. The person responsible for this? Our International Sales Manager, James. After flying the Idyll Wine Co flag for almost ten years, we caught up with James to hear what it’s like to travel the world to talk about wine!

What does your role as International Sales Manager entail ‘in a nutshell’?

James; Travel and meeting people with lots of phone calls and emails in between!

What do you enjoy most about sharing our award-winning wines all around the world?

James; It is a real pleasure to talk to wine lovers who enjoy our wine.

How many countries does Idyll Wine Co sell wine to?

James; 42 at last count, but this is always building!

What is the most exciting award Idyll Wine Co has won internationally?

James; Coming up with Trophies in London and San Francisco in the last couple of years, these were amazing results. Idyll Wine Co’s Arcadian Shiraz was awarded Wine of the Year at the 2018 London Wine Competition. Our Eden Grove Shiraz took home double gold awards at the 2019 San Francisco International Wine Show and also at the 2020 China Wine and Spirits Awards.

What is the most exciting international product launch you’ve been involved in?

James; Releasing the Idyll Victoria suite of wines was really special. It was a great opportunity for us to showcase the fantastic grapes we source from our growers in Victoria.

How has Covid19 impacted Idyll Wine Co’s ability to share its award-winning wine globally?

James; Change is constant. There is no doubt that Covid19 has changed our day to day tasks. That said, it has been an opportunity to reflect on what we do and how we do it. I think the new systems and new ways we are interacting are ultimately going to make Idyll more accessible to more people!

What is the focus for International Sales moving forward?

James; We always want to get our wine’s to new people by - in the countries we already exist in and of course, break into new ones! I consider myself very fortunate to have found Idyll Wine Co. Working alongside a great bunch of people for nearly a decade now has been great fun and very rewarding.
